Obviously it's a very rough analogy,

but I can understand the shifting mindset of young Montana. My dad and older sibling went to Notre Dame as well, so when I started looking at colleges, I initially started with Notre Dame further back in the pack, almost in an effort to show that I was handling this independently of everything else. But as the process advanced, the pull of Notre Dame got greater, particularly because I'd had a relationship with the school since a very young age. And I think Notre Dame is particularly good at working that relationship.

Obviously, it's a big difference between having a parent who was Joe Q. Student at Notre Dame and one that was Joe Friggin' Montana, but I would expect Notre Dame to be deliberately placed further back early on, but to close in as time progressed.
