Agreed.
Do I think that Weis and family legitimately contemplated quitting and heading back to the NFL? Yes.
Do I think that Notre Dame probably thought longer and harder about firing Weis than Weis and family did about resigning? Yes.
That being said, I'm torn between thinking Weis is doing a bit too much ass-covering in this interview (alumni events not his fault, rubbing former players the wrong way not his fault) and giving him the benefit of the doubt because he's shown a willingness to be relatively upfront with his own shortcomings in the past.
But if nothing else, this story shows that I'll always feel incredibly icky when I think about coaches' kids getting hassled at school because of how his dad's football team did.
