I saw it today and I'd give it a B plus --

It isn't boring. I appreciated that they didn't have the actors speak in some "Game of Thrones" affect that would have made it hard to follow.

I won't pretend I've read the poem or any translation of it. I know the rough outline of it and read some summaries beforehand, which made the movie easier to follow.

I didn't care much about the characters. When Matt Damon as Odysseus made it back to Ithaca (obviously the founding of Cornell was a few years away) I thought "good for him." But if he'd died a Penelope's feet I wouldn't really have cared.

The fact that it got people who probably had never heard of the poem interested in it for a minute is probably a good thing.

It will probably win Best Picture because Hollywood likes to congratulate itself on making serious movies. There are dozens of movies I've watched that have made a much bigger impression on me. Heck, "The Exorcist" is a movie I still think about 40 plus years later.

This one won't stick with me. But I'm not sorry I saw it.
