I didn’t care for it, for some of her reasons

Clunky (to be nice) writing, inconsistent tonality, lack of deeper meditation on the main themes, etc, and I appreciated her perspective on missed opportunities from the source material.

I also didn’t care for the oppressive soundtrack (always a Nolan bugaboo he can’t seem to shake) and the tedious mess of the final fight scene. Nolan has a nice eye for lighting, sweeping landscape shots, and quick montage editing when establishing glimpses into other times/locations/periods, but he can’t block out a fight to save his life.

The strongest scene in the movie is between Hathaway and Damon at night upon his return, when he is still in disguise. That’s a beautiful scene and I wish there were more like it. Actually I wish Nolan would collaborate with a bona fide screenwriter or playwright instead of relying on his limited talents in this area. Get Steve Zaillian on the job. The dialogue will be punchier, and the themes more richly manifested having worked with a real writer to shape the story.
