I think Clausen knows when he gets cover 2 that he'll throw it to one of the mesh guys. Whoever gets open. I think his looking left is not part of the progression but rather to look off the coverage. The right corner won't stay in the flat, and the left corner will stay with his man deep. That opens up the flats.
Could be wrong, though. The closest I've come to quarterbacking is on Madden.
