Sounds good. Let's figure out some parameters ahead of time

I'll finish up my cursory look at it above. But I think that if there's interest in a sort of group project to take a look at it for the blog, that there are enough potential contributors back here that it may only make for a few teams each and thus allow for a more comprehensive look.

Your spreadsheet seems to have all HCs and all black assistants. Any thoughts on something like this:
-- all HCs, with last job before becoming a HC (and perhaps multiple HC stops if it adds something as far as the "old boys' network"). Number of years total / years as coordinator before becoming HC for the first time. Age becoming HC for first time.

-- all OCs and DCs, with their first coordinator role if they've moved around a bit (BCS position coach -> non-BCS coordinator -> BCS coordinator, e.g.). Number of years total / years as coach before becoming Coord for the first time. Age becoming Coord for first time.

That seems like a lot, but if limited to those coordinator titles, that's at most 4 per school (I haven't seen any ambitious enough to have more than 2 co-OCs and 2 co-DCs). Ignore the AHC designations because they're normally pretty meaningless in absence of a coordinator title to go along with.

-- all black assistants (full assistants, not grad assistants. those don't count.) and their previous job. Perhaps "first year in coaching" so that the number of years in coaching doesn't have to be updated constantly.

... from "just" that it should be easy enough to trace back new black coordinators to their previous coaching job, and any new black HCs to their coordinator or other job.

I suspect, with no evidence, that the vast majority of new black HCs will come from the coordinator ranks ... perhaps even keeping pace (%age of new black HC hires =?= %age of black coordinators?), and that the struggle will be continuing to fill the coordinator roles to maintain that percentage as guys get promoted and fired. This is where I see the first huge disconnect, as lower in the ranks each school seems to have approximately split somewhere between 1/3-2/3 black assistants ... so why so far are we running at 7/97=7.2% of coordinators?
