This may all eventually tie around to Mike Lombardi and why he was placed on leave. About a year ago, shortly after BB was hired, Lombardi gave a wide ranging interview where he talked about his and BB's vision for modernizing the NFL's 33rd franchise.

One of the things he spoke about was raising NIL money from Saudi Arabia.

Lombardi made that trip. I don't know what came of the overture but if CSC is investigating UNC's NIL operation for violations, a Saudi tie would be something they'd be interested in.

But I saw part of that Lombardi interview and when he mentioned fundraising in Saudi Arabia my ears picked up. Was it legal? Did BB & Lombardi have any idea of NCAA rules?

At the time I suspected Lombardi was mostly doing PR damage control and changing the subject from Jordan Hudson to their vision of UNC football going forward. But NIL funding from the Saudis wasn't something I expected to hear from career NFL guys. That's why the comment stood out to me.
