I think it encourages Big 10 and SEC teams to play easy schedules, but ACC and Big 8 (or whatever they are) to play harder schedules. It's not a surprise that those two conferences provide the most interesting future opponents.

[NB: I'd love challenge week and will be forever disappointed that ND and Vandy didn't play at the end of last year.]
