I tracked you from the half onward. Way to get up Heartbreak and way to close it out. You are absolutely amazing, buddy!

Oh man!

Just getting caught up on life tonight and seeing this for the first time.

Really appreciate the shout out.

Some of you have met me. I’m now almost 47 years old, 215 lbs (down 10 since NYD), and not as good as I once was.

But Monday was special. 2:53:55. Age graded (because everything on this historic course has been analyzed) I ran exactly to the second a time equivalent to my all time PR back in 2014 at age 34 - 2:41:34 (6:10 pace). Monday was 6:38 pace, but I stuck to my plan on a course I know well (three PRs in my life and now my Master’s PR and fastest time since 2017). I stopped to pee at mile 12 (didn’t want to wet myself in front of the Wellesley women) and I’ll even admit to taking a 10-15 second walk break just before I crested Heartbreak Hill. I know my body now, I know this course, and I knew a short break for a quick Hail Mary would allow me to get the legs moving down out of Chestnut Hill into Cleveland Circle. It worked.

Got an auto qualifier into Berlin in 2027, which is great. Going to keep working on my 50 states - I have 25 to go - and if you’ve got a spare bedroom somewhere, this hobby is expensive!

Thanks for following along. It’s a special race. Boston is like going to an ND game. You feel the spirits.

Aside: middle kid has a lax tourney in South Bend area this weekend so we are going to the BG game. Let me know if anyone will be there! Love to meet up.

I assume you have done Georgia but, if not, there are

three races here in Savannah and you are welcome here. They are in January and February.

We used to have a very good, fast, and Olympic certified track (on base) but that ended a while ago.

Bob Varsha used to run along with some other fast runners. IIRC the times for about 5-6 years in the late 70s hovered around 2.15 - 2.16.

The benefit of Savannah is it's flat. Potential downside it can be warm, even in January, though the normal weather is pretty marathon perfect.

And congratulations Silk!!! 215 is pretty damn big to be running those times! My father ran a lot in his 30s. He was 128 at his lowest. I think his heart rate was 1.

Thank you!

I ran Savannah back in November 2017 when it was still the Rock n Roll race. It was the year after an ND classmate and friend passed away on that course during the half marathon.

Love that city and hope to be back to it one day soon.

have you done the Rock & Roll in SD?

No.

Remaining states: AL, AK, CO, CT, ID, IA, KS, ME (planned in October), MD, MI, MT, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NC (planned in February), OR (planned for next April), RI, SC, SD, UT, WA, WI, and WY.

It's hard to find time.

Clock in the photos from Boylston won't say it as he crossed the line about 6 and a half minutes after the gun and so the clock time is just over 3:00.00. But he ran a great pace. Made it up the hardest mile (Heartbreak Hill) under 7:30 pace. Closed with a fast last mile.

His insta photos this weekend have been fun to see. Looking forward to him weighing in here.

What a champ.

many years ago I could turn out 7 minute miles in a 5K but doing that in a marathon is unreal. Well done!

I would like to do one 7:30 mile.

by domer.mq ⌂ @, Monday, April 20, 2026, 11:59 (36 days ago) @ Greg

Doing it in that specific spot is beyond comprehension to me.

It would have been a reasonable ask.

Nowadays, I dont even try dreaming such a feat.

I’ll go back to my ice cream on the couch now.

nice!
