So my daughter started playing hockey last fall with the Triangle Special Hockey Association here in Raleigh.

She's still just learning to skate but as of last week she can do about 10 strides before crashing into the ice or boards.
She hopes to one day be a 70s era enforcer.

This organization has been great and so welcoming.
It's free for all players & they provide the equipment and ice time.

I started playing hockey two years ago, at the age of 48, in an extremely positive no-check men's instructional league in our village. It was practically on a dare, but also trying to push myself as I get older to try hard things.

I could basically skate in ovals when I started. I vastly overestimated my ability in that respect, having gown up playing roller and foot/street hockey.

I still suck at skating, but I'm way better than I was two years ago and most weeks I play twice a week (TUE and FRI night).

I love hearing these stories about great hockey communities and it sounds like you've got one!

The A team travels to play in other states so I assume that's a great experience for everyone.

And the end of season is a final skate at the Lenova Center; where the Hurricanes play.

I've been waiting for our rink's donation drive, but if you need gear, let me know. I'll go through it this evening and see what's there. My son played for 10 years so it covers a lot.

Come to think of it, he's looking at NC State and we may visit over Spring Break, so I could probably drop it off.
