At night, the ice weasels come.
Both my kids loved it.
They are 3rd Yrs at Cal Poly SLO and brought it to my attention.
Let kids be kids. No need for the Get off my Lawn responses IMO.
Speaking of ND and student music
So do washing machines.

That was terrific.
The kids get it.
I liked it.

He worked really hard on it, Grandpa.

Teagan Earley w/Todd Rundgren
I couldn't finish it
I suppose if my kid made it, I would muscle through it. It was better than my 4th grader's school performance of The Little Mermaid. There was a lot of work in it - production, writing... and some gifted entertainers.
But, man, that was painful. 20 years ago, kids could so something like this and share it with friends and family and contain it to just that audience. I hope this doesn't become a thing.
I'm definitely a sourpuss. I just tried to re-watch it
and I'm not feeling any part of it.
The love-child of John Mayer & Jason Mraz just doesn't do it for me.

you guys are a bunch of sourpusses
Young people making music! That was great.
The NINA line was the one that made me sad
OH how we all yearn to be oppressed.
And sure, it’s LMM derivative in both vocal tone and rhyme structure, but it’s obviously way better than I could do.
And Kids These Days love a rapper named Nathan Fuerstein, which to me sounds like a Christian Eminem impersonator, so I’m clearly not With It anymore
I don't get that message?
I don't hear that in the lyrics -- that we're a bunch of scrappy underdogs. The song references the historical nature of how ND took on the "Fightin Irish" nickname, but I don't think there's anything saying that's who we still are. Feels more like a declaration of "hey you shat on our ancestors but we're hear because of them."
my bigger issue with her
Are the high waisted shorts.

Straight outta the Grotto --
I kinda liked it. I guess I think about it what I think of the Shamrock Series uniforms. They aren't my cup of tea, but if it helps kids connect then that's a good thing.
<LIKES>

Those kids are clearly talented
The bigger problem is the bottomless appetite for songs and warrior poetry about Notre Dame.
I think irishoutsider's point still stands
There's something fanciful about presenting an overwhelmingly white and privileged student body as a multiracial band of underdogs. And speaking as an Irish-American, it's time to let NINA go: our ancestors' experience of discrimination in America was mild for its time and had virtually no economic or social impact on future generations.
I don't have a huge problem with the video, and I think ND kids should Hamilton it up to their hearts' content, but that particular vision of ND is wildly misplaced and in rather bad taste.
Hat tip to some of the clever rhymes, but
for me the female vocalist's style was not the best match...she has this animated Disney princess vibe. I mean, "Dame" is one syllable, not five. Comes off a little bit like the closing number for Notre Dame: The Musical. Bless their hearts.
I mean, the dude that wrote it is Puerto Rican
And from the sounds of it, isn't exactly legacy white dude, from everything I've heard.
Jorge Rivera Herrans is actually a pretty interesting dude. He's already written and produced a musical on campus and seems to be building himself quite the career. I've never met the dude, but I don't think I would mind meeting up with him.
It is a student project
I have two thoughts on this: 1.) Anytime you put out a creative work for the world to consume, part of that deal is accepting that there will be criticism. So I really don't have any issue with criticizing them.
2.) That said, and I don't know how to put this delicately, so I'll just say it: I don't think the target demo for this is Boomer/Gen-X/Older Millenial white dudes who post on message boards. I'm not a huge connoisseur of hip-hop or anything, but it seemed fine. There's a beat, a female vocalist and decent rhymes. I'm really not sure what the issue is?
I stopped at :09. Just no.

Good heavens, the synergy
Hold on let me prepare my fainting couch, oh the soapbox is here as well. Convenient.
Im sure the stereotype isn’t 100% true in this video, but it’s very very hard to watch a chorus of legacy kids sing about being the underdogs. Yeah my handle is “outsider” but I had similar privilege to get into and graduate without the kinds of burdens my friends on debt/work programs did. I just didn’t write a song about how we’re all rising and grinding every day.
Honestly, I’ll estimate the percent of the student body that could afford the time/effort to see the original production is going to back me up on this. Also, what’s tuition these days? 85k a year all in?
An excellent song. I love Hamilton and think this is well done.
It just doesn’t read, and I feel very seen. I am triggered as the Netflix people say.
Not suggesting we lean into being the rich kid villains or anything but just dial it back friends.
Is this a student project?
Because I don’t like making fun of kids putting themselves out there and trying to create and whatnot
But this just made me feel sad for so many reasons.
Ha! I actually saw that particluar performance live

Why am I watching this through night vision goggles?
Also, that kid needs to be punched.
The original is great.
But the level of earnestness by the folks who do these remakes makes me cringe so much I nearly become a black hole.

That one's a true litmus test.
If you like that one, I'd really prefer not to deal with you in any way.

Wait...is this like The Ring?
Did you share this because if you didn't get someone else to watch it in the next 7 days, Lou Holtz would crawl out of your laptop and gum you death?
I thought I was alright
Certainly no worse than this sucker:
