I feel sort of dumb about it now...

I caught Travis' thing over the Google News RSS wire. Got pissed by it. Not sure why, as there are dozens of such off-season pieces like this every year. Maybe because of the novelty of the notions he was passing along.

Anyway, I wrote up my response on HLS, then saw that Orson had linked to Travis' piece in his daily roundup, so I added a comment in there sort of hinting at my rebuttal. Usually when I do something like that on EDSBS, it'll get a fair amount of traffic over to HLS, but (even better) it also often brings over the guy with whom I took issue.

So then in the comments to the roundup on EDSBS, I get a response or two from Orson's readers. I respond in kind, though not very magnanimously, and that leads to Travis responding as well in those same comments. We went back and forth a couple of times. I'll link it here.

For the record, I don't feel like I did a very good job representing my points (as has been pointed out now on various nodes of the internet), nor do I feel like I waited long enough to gather my thoughts and respond in the way I'd have liked to. To exacerbate those feelings, I see that Cook, over on the Sporting Blog, more dispassionately shot Travis' theory right in the head, made my points, and did it all in far fewer words than I ultimately used. Pretty irritating. (And I can't help but wonder if he caught the argument and then just boiled it down to the salient points for his piece which he published the next day.)

So let that be a lesson to you, fellow ND bloggers. I'm an idiot.

Though, in fairness, Travis hasn't answered my final questions to him...
