That was my thought.
Inside running on offense is very much about strength and attitude (as cliche as that is). Technique and scheme is important, but not nearly as it is on stretch/outside runs. It's not all that surprising that an athletic but inexperienced defense is stopping the outside run better than the inside run against a big, experienced (but often technically flawed) OL.
