Alford "twice turned down overtures from Urban Meyer"
Methinks we got a rising star here.
My guess is that Dan McCarney recommended Alford from their time together at Iowa State.

but you chose to stay at ISU and Louisville (twice?) instead of go to Florida?
I don't fully understand that move. I hate Florida as much as the next guy, but that's a pretty impressive offer to pass up.
Probably the nature of Urb's offense.

Wenger better get his head out of his ass....
because from what I saw there's a real chance that Cave could take his job. If the goal is to get the five best OL on the field then, as of today, I don't think Wenger is in that group.
I did love the part about Verducci. I was skeptical at first but the more I see and read about him the more I like him. I'm already sold on Hart and Alford.

becoming the 5th Beatle on Busco's staff (actually 6th), you would have seen the most impressive talk of the weekend. This guy is a terrific hire. He could teach a PhD class in line play, and write a thesis on what our linemen did not do correctly (at least according to his standards).
I was a skeptic at first
But these miracles work.
On Cave, though, he has been an impressive kid from the moment he accepted the ND offer. His family did so much for the 07 recruiting class, and he himself gave me some small satisfaction when he manhandled Omar Hunter at the Under Armor AA game. From everything I've seen or heard, he is absolutely stout at the center position, and should be giving Wenger some tough competition for the starting Center job. Wenger was especially disappointing down the stretch; he got hammered by Cuse and did very poorly against Hawaii while everyone else seemed to do very well.
I don't want any player to not succeed, but I do want to see the best players on the field and right now I think Cave is the best Center we have.
You will know we are on the right track...

That'll be good for a year of support from ESPN's sr. writer, probably.
Also, while I normally like coaches to keep it "in the family" when it comes to discussion of who is in the doghouse or not, I can sort of see some Machiavellian reasons for letting it out of the circle of trust, particularly with some OL.
