When will the good guy potion wear off?
Without question, Michael Brey is one of the finest humans prowling a sideline on campus. Maybe even THE finest to be hired as a basketball coach. But watching Tom Izzo work his magic up north to the tune of 5 Final Fours in 11 years cements the fact that one guy gets it and the other guy doesn't. The foundations of basketball have never been evident for 9 years: rebounding (offensive and defensive), staying in front of your man, fighting through and around screens, and an offensive identity beyond chasing the 3-point dream.
When is enough enough? The talent is certainly not there to compete in the Big East. And if the roster isn't getting coached up, there's not much of a chance to contend every year. For beating IU, Kentucky and Louisville in the same season, it sure is an empty feeling.
