Hope we can hang on.
Impossible not to love this team.
Brey doing a great job.
That was a fun game. Did they show the flash mob on TV?

That was Notre Dame's third win over an RPI top 25 team, although right now UConn and Louisville are 25/26, so that could be become two or four very easily. They are the only team to beat Syracuse, who has regained Fab Melo and looks to be back to their dominating ways. With the way the Irish are playing now, analysts and the committee will happily dismiss the non-conference struggles as a team finding itself in the wake of Abro's injury and look to the team you've watched the last four games as the actual tournament squad they're getting.
If Notre Dame does nothing else but win its remaining home games (DePaul, Rutgers, West Virginia, Providence), it will be in the tournament. If it steals a game or two on the road (West Virginia on Wednesday night, Villanova, Georgetown, St. John's), it will only help their seed or help make up for a misstep at home.
How did Melo magically get eligible anyway?

Boy, if only those nerds got out of their dorms

we'd have quite a home court advantage. Too bad all those nerds stay in their dorms playing XBOX, LOL
That was actually a better performance...

...than the win against Syracuse, in which we played well enough but won in part by simply taking advantage of our opponent playing a lousy game. Marquette didn't roll over until toward the end, and the scalps they've accumulated this season in come-from-behind fashion tells you just how well a team has to play to break their back.
If today is a sign of things to come for Connaughton over the remainder of the season, we're going to be a handful for just about anyone. I wish we were a little deeper, but it doesn't necessarily preclude us from continuing to excel. Hell, we're alone in 4th place in the conference as it is. What a crazy freakin' season.
tell me about Connaughton

I've watched all of a half of ND hoops this season. What's Connaughton's game? Sharpshooter?

He has an above average arm with an easy throwing motion
by hobbs, San Diego, CA, Saturday, February 04, 2012, 14:24 (5240 days ago) @ Jay
At 6'5 210 he has room to fill out and grow. He throws a heavy ball and has a couple of plus pitches. The first being his fastball which tops out at 96. The second being a plus curve that would be a 1 for most guys. His third pitch is a nasty sinker that he throws off his fastball.
The concerns with Connaughton are around signability. He already has accepted a scholarship offer to ND in basketball so if a team drafts him he'll command way above slot.
FWIW, Connaughton ended up being drafted in the 38th round by the "Swingin' Friars".
does a lot of things well

High b'ball IQ. Great team player.
Good all around game, nice intangibles.
I don't follow b'ball recruiting very closely? Was he highly recruited with top program cohorts?
I am so glad he's playing for us and not Duke or Kansas.
And what the heck has gotten into Cooley? Damn, he's a badass.
No white guy comparison

He's very athletic and can jump.
I don't trust his shot yet, but he went 5-8 today from 3.
Did I mention he's very athletic?
Not really until today

He was a great shooter coming out of high school (Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year), but he had been doing most of his damage with his long arms and Wes Welkah grittiness. Good rebounder, very nice perimeter defender. He's also gotten to the rim a few times and moves really well without the ball for a freshman. Struggled early on in Big East play and was replaced by Drago in the starting lineup, but that has now flipped and it'll be Connie the rest of the way (in his career, probably) unless something drastic or an injury happens.
Little bit of everything.

He's more athletic than he looks. He's about 6'4" but has a very good vertical, a solid wingspan and doesn't mind mixing it up, so he plays bigger than that. He'll never be a point but he has a good enough handle to help out, and he seems to play pretty good defense, as well. He's just a very sound all-around player and someone who stands to get a lot better over the next three seasons.
A little bit of everything.

He can shoot, he's got surprising athleticism, he can drive, he loves to rebound...he and Jerian Grant are nice building blocks for the program.

I know we're beating them by a lot but who the hell wants to watch Florida-Vandy in the DC area?
I don't even like basketball, and I've watched the games.
