I remember when Jason Collins came out
It was before his last season with (I had to look it up) Brooklyn in 2014.
Anyway on Inside the NBA Kenny Smith referred to him as the first gay player in the NBA and Barkley interrupted to say "oh no he's not" and Smith corrected himself to say "first OUT gay player" and you could tell that they all knew of other closeted players.
Anyway in retrospect 2014 seems kind of late in the game for that kind of thing? and yet it's 12 years later and that's the only time it's happened.
