Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis said today that Notre Dame and MSU have had "no contact" regarding future changes to their series.

Hollis, who is in Dallas for NCAA Division I athletic director meetings, said in a text message to the Free Press that the schools have not discussed any changes. Notre Dame announced today that it is opting out of three games with Michigan, in 2015-17.

The current MSU-Notre Dame deal calls for the schools to continue playing through 2031, with breaks in 2014-15, 2020-21 and 2026-27. Asked whether Notre Dame has an out clause, Hollis replied via text that both schools have an out clause.

In the MSU-Notre Dame agreement, if either school cancels a game, it must pay damages to the other school -- $1 million with six months notice or less, $500,000 with notice of more than six months and less than two years, and $150,000 with notice of two years or more.

That one might not require changes

Maybe one more two-year break and it would be about perfect.

So, ND could cancel all of the games at MSU?

Assuming there are 6 left, that would only cost ~$1M. We could make that up with 1 extra home games, and still have 5 games to spare. Of course, MSU would probably turn around and cancel their games at ND, which would presumably balance out the money, but maybe not all of them. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Edited games remaining
